We are thrilled to announce that Lake Chalice has recently won a plethora of Gold Medals from the latest New Zealand wine shows. In total our wines have acquired eight gold medals in the past three shows, and we could not be prouder.

With high entries across the board this year after a high yielding harvest we are thrilled to have been awarded multiple Gold Medals, despite being up against stiff competition. Lake Chalice Winemaker, Chloe, describes the 2021 vintage, “Mother nature provided lower than average yields across all varieties with cooler spring weather and late spring frosts affecting some of our varieties. The favourable growing season meant earlier picks for us, with concentrated small bunches arriving to the winery much earlier than the previous year. Much of your work is done when you have great fruit!”.

Our Raptor range of wines align with the birds of prey as (like the birds) they are superior examples. Lake Chalice winemaker, Chloe Gabrielsen, targets particular small parcels of unique fruit, on occasion from a single vineyard, that stands out as excellent examples of a particular variety displaying clear varietal expression in the wine.

Chloe shares her perspective on what 2022 vintage was like. Stating, “2022 was very fruitful, with the warmer late spring and early summer weather patterns. However rain in February meant high alert for disease pressure in the region. Thankfully the dry spell that followed meant grapes were able to ripen and allowed us to pick when flavours were just right.”
